TEEMP, a Russian manufacturer of energy-storage systems, in cooperation with Belarusian Belkommunmash, has completed a series of tests of a hybrid bus.The hybrid vehicle has demonstrated 27% higher fuel efficiency than vehicles equipped with just combustion engines.
The tests investigated a A4201K passenger bus with a diesel-generator plant and a supercapacitor-based buffer energy-storage unit manufactured by TEEMP. The hybrid bus was operated on route No. 70 in the capital of Belarus and demonstrated a mean specific fuel consumption of 26.1 l per 100 km, which is almost one-third less than the consumption of conventional vehicles that need at least 35.9 l in the same operating conditions.
The suggested arrangement has been proven as an effective solution – the bus consumes traditional diesel fuel and the diesel-generator plant generates energy for the asynchronous traction motor. The supercapacitor unit by TEEMP plays a key role in assuming peak loads, accumulating the regenerative energy of braking, and returning it to power the KG Impex electric drives. What’s more, the supercapacitor system is responsible for acceleration and assistance when moving uphill, thereby improving the driving performance of the bus and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
Supercapacitor modules by TEEMP are based on a patented cell design, which has no parallel in terms of the ratio of stored-energy density to the volume and mass occupied, the uniformity of current-load distribution and the integrated system of thermal-field dissipation (cooling).
The obtained results demonstrate the high potential for hybrid-bus operation on city routes, bearing in mind that capital expenditures for the purchase of a hybrid bus are similar to those for the purchase of a standard diesel bus and several times less than those for an electric bus.
Co-promotion of this solution is a priority task in the field of advanced-technology implementation in the mass-scale segment and with respect to environmental protection.
TEEMP company is a leading domestic developer and the only Russian manufacturer of high-efficiency solutions in the field of energy storage units based on supercapacitors of proprietary patented technology. Since 2011, TEEMP has been a resident of the Skolkovo Fund. The company is engaged in the development of chemical current sources, including pulse and energy supercapacitors. Series production output is up to 230,000 cells of supercapacitors annually or 35,000 modules with a total power of up to 5.5 GW. Series production quality-management system is certified to ISO 9001, GOST RV.
