A leader on the Russian market of helicopter engine repair, Ural Works of Civil Aviation (UWCA) takes an interest in the use of cutting-edge surface engineering (coating, surface welding and modification) and new solutions in this sector.
ROTEC offers maintenance service of gas and steam turbines, manufactures and supplies power equipment and develops a number of hi-tech projects in diverse industries, including power-plant engineering, petrochemical and bio-industry.
ROTEC runs a project of Inter-industry Competency Center for thin films, surface modification and functional coatings (Coating Center) using technologies of the global leaders Metco and Balzers which are part of Oerlikon Concern.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and backed up by the loan from Vnesheconombank.
With the investments in the project to exceed USD70 mln, the Coating Center is about to become the largest organization in Russia providing solutions and shop-floor service in the industry.
UWCA will become one of the key customers of the Coating Center in the Ural region. The company repairs over 1,000 aircraft engines and reducing gear annually. The company’s total demand in coating is about USD15 mln per year.
The partners plan the co-development of new-generation coatings in a number of focus areas. Thus, new erosion-resistant coatings will reduce helicopter engine blade wear by 4-6 times.
To satisfy the current and potential demand of UWCA and the Ural region in general, the Coating Center will set up a production branch with about 30 employees and investments over USD20 mln in the premises of the Ural Turbine Works in Yekaterinburg.
The production branch of the Coating Center in Yekaterinburg will be located in the premises of the Ural Turbine Works in Yekaterinburg.
Today the coating technologies of Oerlikon Metco and Oerlikon Balzers are adopted at many Russian hi-tech enterprises, among them all aircraft engine construction works, car makers, cutting tools production plants and other engineering companies. Two coating platforms were newly set up at Avtovaz in Togliatti and in Electrostal.
